*Continued on Next Page*
Proprietary Property of Planned Parenthood Keystone
To schedule an appointment for an abortion, please call (800) 230-PLAN (7526) or online at: www.ppkeystone.org
Before Your Appointment *The Abortion Control Act (1989) - requires that anyone having an abortion in PA has an information
session with a doctor prior to their abortion. For more information: www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/state-facts-about-abortion-pennsylvania
• All patients are required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania* to attend an information session at least 24 hours prior
to the abortion.
• This session must take place no less than 24 hours before the abortion, but can be scheduled more than 24 hours
ahead of time. This session can be completed during an audio phone visit, or in-person. Non-English and non-Spanish
speaking patients, as well as those needing ASL interpretation have the option to complete the consent in-person at a
health center or virtually via telehealth with interpretation.
• The doctor cannot provide an abortion to a patient who has not completed this requirement.
• Please note: If you are UNDER 18, you must do your information session in person at a health center with a parent or legal
guardian to sign for consent. The same parent or guardian must accompany you to your procedure. If this is not possible,
judicial bypass is available. If seeking judicial bypass, please ask one of our staff for more information.

• Bring your photo ID: current, unexpired photo identification with your picture and date of birth is required. Accepted
forms of ID include Driver’s License, State ID, Passport, Military ID, or Visa with photo.

• Prepare to be in the center for about 2 to 4 hours on average.
o We suggest you bring a book or a small handheld device/smartphone with a charger and headphones.

• You will receive an antibiotic and ibuprofen, as well as a medicine injected into the cervix to help decrease any
discomfort.

Abortion by Pill (Medication Abortion) Visit our website for more information
What to Expect in the Center:
• You will get any recommended labs/ultrasound, an education session, and birth control consultation (if desired) before
seeing the doctor.
• You will be given medications to end the pregnancy and empty the uterus. We’ll review when and how to take these
medications.
What to Expect While at Home:
• Cramping and bleeding often start 2 to 4 hours after you take the second set of the medications. This is how the
pregnancy passes. It can last for several hours and it is heaviest when the pregnancy comes out.
• The pregnancy is very small. You may or may not see it, depending on how many weeks the pregnancy is. The cramping
and bleeding will slow down after you pass the pregnancy.
• You will need to make sure the procedure worked. You can either take an at home pregnancy test 5 weeks after your
appointment (and can opt to get a reminder call for this) or you can return to one of our centers for lab work or an
ultrasound one to two weeks after your appointment.
